Clearing Agent Docked For Obtaining Money Under False Pretence

For allegedly duping his victim of N1.6 million meant to clear two vehicles at the port, a clearing agent; Chikezie Anyanwu, on Monday appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Anyanwu, 42, and resident of No. 20 Oduwole St., Egbeda, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.      
The prosecutor, Insp. Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that defendant allegedly committed the offence on July 10 at Onike, Yaba.

He said that the defendant made a representation to the complainant, Femi Olabode, to help him clear two vehicles but knew same to be false.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 326 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Aka-Bashorun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 10 for mention.
