For allegedly forging receipts of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), a clearing agent, Solomon Oyekanmi, was yesterday docked at an Ebute Meta Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
The clearing agent; Oyekanmi, 46, who resides at No. 28, Alhaja Olayinka St., Adiyan in Agbado area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of forgery, cheating and obtaining money under false pretences.
The Prosecutor, Insp. R. Odigie, said that the accused committed the offences sometime between Aug. 14, 2012 and March 12 at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
According to Odigie, the accused forged two receipts — Nos. 0897563 and 0879561 — for the sum of N70, 000 in the name of PAGOLD Ltd.
He said the receipts purportedly issued by SON were for the inspection and verification of security doors imported by the company.
“It was during the routine inspection of the company that it discovered that the issuer of the receipt and the signatory were not employees of SON.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of the accused, who processed the fake receipt.''
He said the offences contravened Sections 312, 363 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 312 provides 15 years imprisonment for convicted felons.
Oyekanmi, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Chief Magistrate, Ms S.O. Solebo, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 11 for trial.
