The national president, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu has disclosed that the level of compliance to import regulations has increased from a mere 20 per cent about years ago to about 80 per cent currently.
The ANLCA president gave this cheering news last week when he led a delegation of his association’s leaders on a courtesy visit to the managing director of Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi.
He stressed that the most important factor in the maritime industry is the shipper which according to him, is represented by the licensed customs agents, and appealed to the managing director to key into the desire to have a one-stop-shop port system.
“As long as we represent the shipper, we are also very important”, he stated, even as he pledged that the association will assist the managing director to succeed.
Harping on the need for a better port system, he told his host that, the confirmation about the improved compliance level among customs agents was given by no less a person than the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdulahi Inde.
While responding to the national president of ANLCA, the NPA managing director disclosed that very soon the port community system would come on stream. He said that a corollary to that is the single billing system which will also come on stream soon.
According to him, all this is to encouraging the desired one-stop-shop and also enhance a turn-around time for ship and reduce cargo dwell time.
