The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has advised forwarders to key into its accredited training programmes that have been developed to boost professionalism in the sector.
The Registrar of the Council,Sir Mike Jukwe, made the call last week when he led a delegation of CRFFN officials on a visit to Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) at  Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The registrar said that the visit was to solicit NAHCO's collaboration in sanitising the ports across the country through the operation of registered freight forwarders.
Jukwe said the council carried out the exercise through its accreditation from the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA).
He said that the accreditation was in accordance with the legislation establishing the council and in a bid to bring the practice in tandem with acceptable international standards.
He listed the accredited programmes and admission requirement as Certificate in Freight Forwarding for holders of Ordinary National Diploma and National Diploma, which would run for nine months.
He said the accredited programme include: Executive Diploma in Freight Forwarding offered by registered freight forwarders at executive level and holders of bachelors’ degrees.
Others are International Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management which can be offered for one year with project and industrial attachment. “This is for holders of OND in other disciplines and ND in freight forwarding.
“It is a condition for issuance and renewal of freight forwarding practitioners' licences," he said.
Responding, Hajiya Falmata Mohammed, Abuja Cargo Manager, NAHCO, told the registrar that the company would do its best to assist the council to achieve its mandate.
Mohammed said NAHCO would also be guided by the register of the freight forwarders to streamline its activities at the airport.
She, however, suggested that freight forwarders should equally utilise the opportunity to enrol in the Open University to make it easier for them because of their tight schedule.
The highpoint of the visit was the official presentation of the Act establishing the council and Register of Freight Forwarders and Accredited Training Programmes and Institutions to the Manager.
