The Acting Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Mrs. Chinyere Uromta, has reiterated the Council’s dedication to fostering capacity building in various aspects of the freight forwarding sector.
This assurance was given during the closing ceremony of the Executive Professional Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management at the Institute of Maritime Studies, University of Lagos.
Reflecting on the Council’s core mandate, Uromta emphasized the goal of professionalizing the freight forwarding sector by establishing standards and providing educational and training programs. In 2020, the Council determined the minimum qualification for practicing freight forwarding in Nigeria, introducing the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management or its equivalent. This led to the initiation of the Executive Professional Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management as an ongoing program.
Uromta highlighted the significance of these programs, stating that they qualify participants to practice freight forwarding in Nigeria.
Specifically, she said the Executive Professional Diploma serves as an executive pathway for the Certificate of Experience outlined in the CRFFN Act.
She added that the programme aims to validate experience and update the knowledge of Executive Officers in the freight forwarding sector through an intensive one-week residential program.
The Acting Registrar recalled the 2019 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between UNILAG and CRFFN to deliver training programs covering freight forwarding, logistics, and supply chain management.
Uromta expressed optimism that these training, if well utilized, would significantly contribute to the growth of organizations and the overall economy.
Urging trainees to register with the Council and keep their Professional Operating Fee (POF) up to date, Uromta emphasized that the proceeds from the latter would serve as a return on investment for continuous training for freight forwarders.
In concluding her address, Uromta encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained diligently, fostering efficiency and excellence. She reiterated the Council’s commitment to facilitating and promoting capacity building in the freight forwarding sector.
The Acting Director of the Institute of Maritime Studies, University of Lagos, Prof. Olusegun Badejo, echoed the call for participants to register with the Council and engage in freight forwarding. He emphasized the economic significance of freight forwarding, especially as part of the Blue Economy.
Closing the event, course participant and class captain, Gabby Dimude, expressed gratitude to the Acting Registrar for the impactful course. He thanked the facilitators and the University of Lagos for the training opportunity.
