After about one and half years of apparent inactivity, the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria said registration of freight forwarders will begin on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.
Chairman of the Council, Mr Tony Nwabunike told reporters last week in Lagos that it has spent the last months putting structures in place so as to have a properly organised council.
According to him, the council now has offices in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano and that it has now been registered by the International Federation of Freight Forwarders   Association (FIATA). He added that CRFFN is already collaborating with the global body to train members of the Council next year.
Nwabunike who was flanked by some members of the Council also seized the opportunity of the media chat to introduce the new registrar in the person of Mike Jukwe, who until his appointment was the Abuja branch of a multinational transport and logistics company;  SDV Nigeria Limited.
The new registrar is a fellow of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, a two masters degree holder in Transport and Logistics and also in Public Administration.
While offering a brief response, the new registrar disclosed what he called his 10-point agenda. These include: recognising freight forwarding associations which meet set criteria and also  issuing them with operating guidelines, establishment of  the Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and getting it accredited with the National Board for Technical Education.
The chairman of the council however disclosed that its portal will also come up simultaneously with the on- line registration of freight forwarders.

Nwabunike was assisted by the chairman of the Council’s publicity committee, Prince Olayiwola Shittu who explained that by being a registered freight forwarder, members can raise their heads high among practitioners all over the world adding that registered freight forwarders can use the acronym RFF.
