The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria [CRFFN] has concluded its maiden edition of the much-expected Training of the Trainers [TOT] programme in Lagos.
The training programme which was handled by world-acclaimed international consultant and Master Trainer for the TOT Programme for more than 50 countries, Mr Thomas Sim drew participants from the nation’s six geo-political zones.
A total of 25 participants who will form the nucleus of the Nigerian trainers were drawn from: the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, [South East] Federal University of Technology, Yola, [North East], Benue State University [North Central], Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria [North West], Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron [South South] and Redeemer’s University, Mowe [South West], training institutions, industry practitioners and the regulatory agency [CRFFN].

Shipping Position Daily recalls that the TOT had earlier been scheduled for September, 2011, but could not hold because of some pockets of resistance from some industry activists.
Commenting on the training programme, CRFFN’s registrar and chief executive officer, Sir Mike Jukwe told our correspondent that it was heart-warming that the council has been able to surmount the challenges of flagging-off the training programme.
“With this development, the core business of CRFFN, which are: education standardization and international benchmarking has officially commenced. The next line of action is to hold the induction of practitioners in February and thereafter, the Certificate Course in Freight forwarding commences in March 2012”, he stressed.
He also confirmed that the tertiary institutions, training institutions and industry practitioners from where the 25 participants came from will form the nucleus of trainers who will be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that practitioners are trained to meet the minimum requirements of the Federation of International  Freight Forwarding Association (FIATA).
According to him, CRFFN now has strategic partners in the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory to pursue its education and training mandate.
Speaking to Shipping Position Daily shortly after the programme which lasted between January 3 and 8 ended, the Master Trainer, Mr Sim commended the high Intelligent Quotient (IQ) of the participants.
According to him, the participants exhibited high level of competence which made it made it easier for him to complete the programme on schedule.
He disclosed that lectures were held from eight o’clock in the morning till about 11pm every day, culminating in the examination which was conducted late in the evening of Saturday January 7, 2011.
He stated that the benefits of the training in enormous as it will flag-off the process of Nigeria’s full integration into FIATA.
