More than one year after placing a travel ban on Nigeria, global freight forwarding body; the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) has lifted the travel restriction.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that FIATA descended on Nigeria on September 2, 2011 following petitions and threat letters that were written by a group that the lives of FIATA members were not safe in Nigeria.
The group wrote the letters based on certain disagreements with CRFFN.

A release from FIATA ‘s secretariat in Switzerland and signed by its director general, Marco Sorgetti confirmed that the resolution followed FIATA’s receipt of documents submitted by the parties which contained copies of the Federal High Court, Lagos affirmation reflecting a harmonious resolution of the issues by the parties.
By the statement, FIATA officials are no longer prevented from traveling to Nigeria.
Responding to the development, the Registrar and Chief Executive of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe commended the global body for the rethink, even as he decried events that led to the travel ban.
He stated that, by this development, FIATA officials are now in position to travel into Nigeria when appropriate, adding that this would help to add value to the freight forwarding profession.
The CRFFN boss, reaffirmed the commitment of the council to justify her membership of FIATA, especially by upholding the benefits of FIATA’s validation of her Diploma courses in freight forwarding and supply chain management
Sir Jukwe noted that the lifting of the travel ban was one of the dividends of the council’s efforts and her participation in recently-concluded FIATA World Congress In Los Angeles, USA.
He therefore expressed appreciation to chairman of RAME, Mr. Isa Baluchi, the manager of RAME, Mr. Peter Maegerle and the chairman ABVT – Mr. Thomas Sim; all of FIATA for facilitating the lifting of the travel ban.
He went further to express profound gratitude to the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, the Ministry, the Chairman and members of the governing council as well as the management and the staff of CRFFN for standing by the council
