The Council for the Regulations of Freight in Nigeria (CRFFN) said it is no longer comfortable with the posture of some of its freight forwarding associations, especially those that are planning to hold a freight forwarders’ congress tomorrow (Wednesday, October 3, 2012) in Lagos.
Registrar of CRFFN; Sir Mike Jukwe, in a statement that was sent to Shipping Position Daily maintained that the Council views the actions of the conveners of the meeting as a threat to public peace.

In the statement, the CRFFN however acknowledged that the gathering is being championed by “unaccredited body/ies parading themselves illegally as Associations and Congress of freight forwarders in Nigeria”.
The registrar equally disclosed that the development will be brought to the attention of the   “minister of transport and the law enforcement agencies for the necessary action.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that the duo of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) are the conveners of the meeting which is scheduled to appraise the activities of the freight forwarding regulatory agency.
To ensure success of the meeting, the duo of ANLCA and NAGAFF have been mobilising their members. The two associations will today hold a sensitization meeting with their leaders.
While ANCLA’s meeting with its national, zonal and chapter leaders as well as its Board of Trustees, the NAGAFF meeting is for national and chapter executives.
But, apparently determined to whip the ‘rebellious’ practitioners to line, the CRFFN, in the statement reminded all practitioners that there is a Freight Forwarders Consultative Forum (FFCF), which according to it, “is charged by the CRFFN (Accreditation of Associations of Freight Forwarder) Regulations, 2010 with the responsibilities of resolving all matters affecting freight forwarding in Nigeria and it is the only body that can speak on behalf of freight forwarders in Nigeria”.
Emphasising that none of its members is above the law, the CRFFN also disclosed that the Freight Forwarders Disciplinary Tribunal that is being headed by the chairman of CRFFN governing council; Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju will soon hold an emergency meeting for the purpose of  disciplining erring those who may have ran foul of the CRFFN Act.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that, ANLCA and the NAGAFF had at a joint press conference last week took on the CRFFN.
At the news conference, the National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, said the collection of the controversial transaction fees was diversionary, adding that the main objective of the council members was tenure elongation.
“It is no longer news that there are trade disputes between the registered members of CRFFN on one part and the Governing Council of CRFFN on the other.
“Before the issue of transaction fees as approved by government became a dispute, the registered members have been worried over the breach of law in relation to tenure of the elected members of the council,” Shittu said.
