The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) with eight higher institutions to run courses on transportation management technology to ensure professionalism among its members.
Registrar of the Council, Sir Mike Jukwe said at the signing ceremony with the institutions which included universities that the programmes would be run from Certificate to Philosophy of Doctorate Degree, PhD, in various aspects of Freight forwarding, supply chain, logistic and transport.
Harping on the determination of CRFFN to change the status of freight forwarders, he stressed that the council’s aim “is to transform this profession from a predominantly uneducated class to a highly educated and professional class and this is the reason for this partnership, even as he acknowledged that “before now, freight forwarding was an all comers’ affairs, it was uncoordinated and unregulated, the profession was looked down on, while the practitioners were called touts and discriminated against.”
According to him, “it is in a bid to maintain international industry best practices and to key into the transformation agenda that we are today kick-starting this initiative which will make freight forwarding in Nigeria the pride of the nation.
“We shall do our utmost to encourage you by establishing centers of excellence that will enable you to run programmes from certificate to PhD in various aspects of freight forwarding, supply chain, logistic and transport. We expect you to carry out local and international research and publish with a view to raising the freight forwarding profession to the highest heights.
