In an apparent determination to douse the rising tension among freight forwarders, the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) yesterday met with presidents of the five registered freight forwarding associations.
The freight forwarding fraternity has been badly polarised since the minister of transport, Senator Idris Umar granted approval to CRFFN to collect transaction fees payable on all imports into the country.

Shipping Position Daily learnt yesterday that the meeting was attended by members of the governing council of the CRFFN as well as the presidents of the five registered associations, namely: ANLCA, NAGAFF, National Council, AREFFN and NAFFAC.
Although, details of the meeting were sketchy as at press time last night, it was nevertheless confirmed that it was a prelude to a meeting of the governing council that will take place today.
Confirming yesterday’s meeting with the registered associations, chairman of the governing council, Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju told our correspondent that it was the first time that the council would be meeting with the associations after three of them were registered recently.
He also confirmed that an enlarged governing council meeting will be holding today, even as he refused to give an insight into the agenda.
It will however be recalled that the council had promised to meet after the minster suspended collection of the controversial transaction fees owing to the bickering that followed the approval.
A frontline freight forwarder hinted that today’s meeting will be a strategic one that would enable the CRFFN to wave the olive branch and probably call for another round of meeting with the aggrieved parties.
