Activities at Grimaldi Shipping Company at the Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited was on Monday grounded for hours as freight forwarders shut down operations over failure of server from the service providers; Webfontaın.
Shipping Position Daily gathered that the server has been epileptic and going on and off since Wednesday last week thereby making it difficult for freight forwarders to take delivery of their dully cleared consignments.
Speaking with our correspondent in his office yesterday, PTML chapter chairman of NAGAFF, Mr. Cosmas Ndimkora stated that when freight forwarders had resumed on Monday to take delivery of their cargoes, they were asked to pay demurrage for the days the server broke down.
Consequently, the gates to the PTML terminal at Mile 2 and the one at Tin Can was closed down by a combination of both NAGAFF and ANLCA members around 1pm on Monday.
Ndimkora however explained that the shipping company’s gates were re-opened yesterday after several hours of meeting with the management of Grimaldi Shipping.
"Yesterday we had to shut down the place, then mid-day today (Tuesday) we went to have a heart-to-heart discussion with the management, and most of the things we presented to them they agreed that they are true and that they are doing all they can to give us a good service”
"The server is always like that, sometimes, customs cannot release any entry for a whole day, the server has been our problem, we have told Webfontaın and we have written letters to them and talked on different foras”
A source at the Tin Can port however told Shipping Position Daily in a chat that the server failure is an attempt by the service providers to sabotage the effort of customs in taking over destination inspection by July this year.
