Comptroller General of the Nigeria Custom Service, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi Inde has assured officers of the Western Marine Command of the service that there will be a total rehabilitation of structures at the command in order to create an enabling environment for staff.
The customs boss disclosed this in Lagos when he paid the command an impromptu visit recently even as he lauded officers of the command for their patience and endurance over the poor state of infrastructures at the premises.

The customs boss disclosed this in Lagos when he paid the command an impromptu visit recently even as he lauded officers of the command for their patience and endurance over the poor state of infrastructures at the premises.
Apart from the dilapidated structure, the command also known as “beachcomber” is a non revenue generation command but seizure bound unit of customs that lack infrastructures like, ferries and speed boats to carry out their operations on the creeks and riverine areas.
According to Dikko, equipment that will empower officers at the command will soon be acquired to support their operations at sea and equipment that are faulty will be fixed for effective performance.
He also assured that there will be facilities on ground to encourage officers to discharge their duties effectively and diligently.
Despite the poor facilities on ground, the CG commended the command performances in line with seizures made in the last three months.
Apart from equipment, Shipping Position Daily also gathered that the command also have limitation of accommodations for officers, lack of medical facilities, and dilapidated structures within the command.
Our correspondent also gathered that senior officers of the service had twice visited the command last week to inspect facilities present in order to give first hand report to the customs boss.
