The Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Airport Command, said yesterday that it arrested a man in possession of a pistol and five sachets of pellets.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the coammnd; Mrs Williams Thelma, Thelma told reports at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja that the suspect was arrested aboard a Kenya Airways flight KQ532 from Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to her,“during the inward clearance of Kenya Airways flight KQ532 from Johannesburg, South Africa, on April 24, 2013, about 1050 hours, one Mr (names withheld) with Nigerian passport number A04206153 was arrested.
“Upon normal routine examination with other relevant agencies, his luggage was found to contain one air soft gun zinc alloy shell G.15 pistol, which he claimed to have bought for his son and not a real gun.
“The passenger and the air soft gun with five sachet of pellets had been handed over to the Airport Police Command for further investigations,“ Thelma said.
It will be recalled that on July 13, 2012, the customs at the airport intercepted an Abuja-bound cache of three high calibre air rifles that entered the country through a courier shed.
