The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, has described the death Secretary-General of Nigeria's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Dr Lateef Adebgite, as a national loss.
A statement issued by his office on Monday in Abuja said that Adebgite died when the nation needed “his peace making skills to create mutual understanding across tribal and religious divides.’’

The customs chief condoled members of his immediate family, the Muslim ummah, and all Nigerians, and prayed almighty Allah to grant the departed soul “Aljanna Firdaus’’.
Born on March 20, 1933, Adegbite, a lawyer and former Attorney General of the Western Region of Nigeria, died on Sept. 28.
He was buried on Saturday, Sept. 29 in his family compound in Abeokuta, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
