The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded another seizure of more than 2,590 cartons of assorted poultry products with Duty Paid value (DPV) in excess of N15Million
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the unit, Mr Dan Ugo (a Comptroller) made this disclosure while conducting journalists and representatives of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) round the destruction site located in the workshop area of the command.
The controller stated that his latest operational methodology which is ‘intelligence- based’ has provided the platform for the actualization of this feat.
The CAC further stated that the latest onslaught on smugglers of poultry products was informed by the need to protect local farmers and the attendant creation of jobs from the negative effect of the unpatriotic economic saboteurs.
According to him, “the unit is determined more than ever to enforce full compliance with the headquarters’ directive on Zero Tolerance for the importation of poultry products”.
The CAC posited that, “our mandate is clear and our operational readiness to frontally confront this hydra- headed monster is total”.
He applauded the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko and his management team for their unalloyed support and encouragement in terms of provision of enabling environment which necessitated the successes.
Comptroller Ugo assured the Nigeria public that the unit will ensure the sustenance of this campaign aimed at suppressing smuggling to its barest minimum, even as he advised importers of these products to venture into more reasonable enterprise to avoid financial losses of this magnitude.
