Customs FOU, Zone ‘C’, Owerri Seize N140Million Goods

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘C’ in Owerri said last weekend that it has  of made seven seizures with total Duty Paid Value of  about N140. 9million in June, 2013.

A statement issued in Owerri by the Unit’s public relations officer; Mrs Ify Onuigbo confirmed that the seizures included:151 bales of second hand clothing, 340 pieces of used foot wears,135 bags of 50kilogramme of imported rice, 205 bales of printed wax of highest quality and many cartons of assorted unregistered foreign wine, counterfeit pampers, juice, and others sundry items, all seized at at different locations within the zone.
 
The unit’s image maker however disclosed that the seized counterfeit products worth N6.2million were handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) last Friday in Owerri at a press briefing by the Customs
Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Victor Dimka.
 
And while confirming the exploits of officers and men in the unit, the Area Controller disclosed that customs had burst the den of smugglers which has now rendered smuggling activities difficult.
 
According to him, the feat had resulted into a drastic reduction of smuggling within the states under the zone.
 
He added that the seized counterfeit products which his zone handed over to NAFDAC for onward destruction include; nine cartons of Crusader soap, 69 cartons of Chapel wine, 23 cartons of Cannel Life Sparkle Wine, 17 packets of Chinese herbal soap, 48 packets of energy drink, seven cartons of air fresher, 146 packets of various diapers, among others.
 
Presenting the list of the contraband product to the officials of NAFDAC at the Customs Area Command Headquarters in Owerri, DC Dimka said that the exercise was in the spirit of inter-agency co-operation.
 
Dimka, who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Administration in the zone, Mr. Anthony Mbah said that the products were seized along Owerri-Aba express way by officers and men of the customs during regular patrol.
 
Receiving the products on behalf of the Director of NAFDAC in Imo State, Victor Mamel, the regulatory officer; Mr. Eze Chinedu Oge commended Customs for their support and cooperation in the fight against counterfeit and wholesome regulatory products.
