In line with its resolution at the recent meeting with the leadership of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), the management of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) may have begun clandestine investigations into the activities of some of its officers who are allegedly involved in customs clearing business.

At the enlarged meeting which held at the Customs headquarters in Abuja on February 15, 2012, the Customs Comptroller General, Alhaji    Diko Abdulahi Inde reportedly challenged members of ANLCA to come up with names of Customs officers “who have been running Single Good Declaration”.
To demonstrate his seriousness, the Customs boss went further to give out his email address as well as that of all the Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs) for use whenever such information is available, even as he assured that the disclosure will be treated with confidentiality.
Shipping Position Daily learnt yesterday that a discrete follow up on the agreement may have been flagged-off by the Customs hierarchy.
Even though no one could confirm anything,  our correspondent was told that the Custom boss  understood the reluctance on the part of licensed customs agents to expose the customs officers who have also been performing the duties of licensed customs agents  and has designed a method of getting the culprits.
One of those who attended last week’s meeting confirmed to our correspondent yesterday that it is true that the CG of Customs gave out his email address and that of his lieutenants.
“It is true that the CG has been telling us to expose the Customs officers, he also acknowledged that it might be difficult  to get the truth, because it’s like the Police asking you  to offer information on a robbery suspect, you know how these thongs can play out ”, he confirmed.
