Customs Intercepts General Goods Worth N65Million In One Operation

The Nigeria Customs Service says it has seized goods worth N65million in a single operation carried out by the its headquarters monitoring team.

The customs team which is based around the  Idi roko  axis reportedly seized items such as: vehicles, poultry product, bales of second hand used clothing and other general products.

A statement made available to Shipping Position Daily yesterday, by the spokesman, Federal Operations unit Zone A, of the service, Mr. Uche Ejesieme revealed that the operation took place  on 27th May, 2015 after a tip off.

According to the document the seized goods, were suspected to have been smuggled through unapproved routes.

It further revealed that Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Biri Usman, who led the operation affirmed that the team had a stiff battle with the smugglers before they were eventually subdued.

The statement further quoted the deputy comptroller as saying that the team had mounted surveillance along some of the unapproved routes and was very optimistic that the anti-smuggling strategies being carefully articulated by his team will always yielded the desired results.

He stated that the Headquarters Monitoring Team Idiroko Axis has been in close collaboration with other Customs formations to ensure of the smugglers ring .

The statement reads, "sequel to the renewed vigour of the Nigeria Customs Service to sustain the ongoing campaign through intelligence led anti-smuggling operations, the Headquarters Monitoring Team Idiroko Axis, on Wednesday 27th May, 2015 at 1525hrs, while acting on a tip off intercepted vehicles, poultry products, four hundred and thirteen  bales of used clothing and other general goods, suspected to have been smuggled through unapproved routes."
