The Zonal Coordinator of Zone ‘A’ in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Assistant Comptroller General Charles Orbih, has called on officers who were unsuccessful in the recent promotion examination to take the outcome in good faith and prepare harder for the next opportunity.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony for newly promoted senior officers in Zone ‘A’ at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos, ACG Orbih encouraged the affected officers to remain optimistic, assuring them that their efforts would eventually yield positive results.
“For our officers and men that sat for the promotion examination but were not promoted, I urge you to take it in good faith and prepare harder for the upcoming exercise. The good Lord will put a smile on your faces,” he said.
During the event, ACG Orbih and other senior officers decorated newly promoted Comptrollers, Deputy Comptrollers, and Assistant Comptrollers. He used the occasion to reiterate the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to professional growth and excellence under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
He noted that the Service had embarked on a transformative journey aimed at consolidating automation processes, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and introducing innovative approaches to customs operations and revenue generation.
“This ceremony exemplifies our commitment to excellence and professional growth as we continue our journey toward a fully modernized and efficient Nigeria Customs Service,” he stated.
The Zonal Coordinator highlighted that the promotion process was guided by fairness, ensuring that only the most deserving officers were elevated. He urged the newly promoted officers to uphold the values of integrity and professionalism as they take on new responsibilities within the Service.
“The Service has demonstrated remarkable fairness and thoroughness in selecting the very best among its officers for promotion, ensuring that merit and performance remain the bedrock of career advancement. Moving forward, these promotions carry the weight of greater responsibilities in alignment with our core values of integrity and professionalism. A lot more is expected of you because of this unalloyed promotion being bestowed upon you today.”
Recognizing Zone ‘A’ as the premier zone of the NCS, ACG Orbih commended its contributions to revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and national security. He urged the newly promoted officers to sustain the high standards associated with the zone and continue demonstrating proficiency in modern customs procedures.
“Our newly promoted officers have demonstrated remarkable proficiency in embracing modern customs procedures and ensuring that high standards are upheld. Their dedication in implementing our mandate reflects their readiness for higher obligations. The ceremony was not only a celebration of the achievements of the newly promoted officers but also a reminder of the need for continuous improvement and professionalism within the Service. Orbih urged the officers to exemplify strong leadership qualities and maintain ethical conduct in their assignments.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone B Kaduna, has also decorated the newly promoted officers, with a call for greater dedication and collaboration in their duties.
It’s Comptroller Tijjani Abe, during the ceremony, urged the officers to prioritize harmonious working relationships with all the stakeholders.
He emphasised that the command remained committed to achieving its revenue targets and operational goals.
Abe also advised the promoted officers not to see themselves as superior to their colleagues who were yet to be promoted, encouraging others to remain diligent and strive for excellence.
He appreciated the families of the officers for their support and congratulated the promoted officers, stressing that their elevation comes with greater responsibilities.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. You have earned this promotion, and it is time to raise the bar,” he said.
Representing ACG Adekunle Oloyede, the Zonal Coordinator for Zone B Kaduna, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuibu, praised the dedication of the officers and reaffirmed the service’s commitment to professionalism.
Prominent among the officers decorated were Suleman Isa, Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operations Unit Zone B, promoted to Chief Superintendent of Customs.
Dikko Magaji, Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna Zonal Office, was also promoted to the Rank of Superintendent of Customs
Ridwan Yusuf, Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna Area Command was also elevated to Chief Superintendent of Customs.
The ceremony, described as a day of celebration rather than lengthy speeches, also highlighted the accomplishments of the officers while motivating them for greater service delivery.
In his vote of thanks, the Public Relations Officer for Zone B, .Suleiman Isa, expressed gratitude to the Comptrollers for their confidence in the promoted officers.
Isa, who spoke on behalf of the newly promoted officers also appreciated Abe for his mentorship and guidance, pledging not to take the promotion for granted.
