The newly appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho assumed leadership of the authority earlier this morning.
He took over from the outgoing Managing Director, Mohammed Bello-Koko, in a formal handover ceremony held at the NPA Corporate Headquarters in Marina, Lagos in the presence of senior officials and staff members of the Authority.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Dantsoho outlined his ambitious vision for the NPA, emphasizing a commitment to repositioning the organization for enhanced productivity and efficiency. He highlighted three primary goals which include increasing revenue generation, improving overall staff productivity, and advancing ongoing digitization initiatives.
“My primary objective is to reposition the NPA to achieve greater productivity and efficiency,” Dr. Dantsoho stated. His focus aims to address long standing operational challenges within the Authority and optimize processes to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving maritime industry.
Dantsoho assured stakeholders of his unwavering commitment to the NPA’s digitization efforts. He underscored the importance of the Port Community System (PCS), a digital platform designed to streamline port operations and facilitate seamless communication between stakeholders.
The PCS is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and improve transparency in port activities.
In addition to digitization, the new Managing Director emphasized the significance of the port modernization plan. This initiative aims to upgrade infrastructure, adopt cutting-edge technologies, and implement best practices to ensure that Nigerian ports remain competitive on a global scale.
The modernization plan will also address critical issues such as congestion, security, and environmental sustainability
