Details: Somali pirates hijacked three Thai fishing vessels with a total of 77 crewmembers onboard. It is thought to be one of the farthest offshore attacks to date, taking place more than 1,200 miles from the Somali coastline. On 28 January Prantalay 14, which was being used as a mothership, was damaged and sank during a joint piracy operation off the Lakshadweep Islands by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. Twenty hostages were rescued and 15 pirates arrested.
