Dock Workers Union Moves Against LNG Bonny, Over Unemployment

Worried by the continuous economic war against the indigenes of Rivers State particularly in Bonny, a prominent stakeholder and Chairman of Dock Workers branch  of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Bonny chapter, Ephraim Boggy Say People has blamed the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) for alleged  exclusion to impoverish the indigenes of Bonny and other areas in River State, through unemployment of their citizens.

Worried by the continuous economic war against the indigenes of Rivers State particularly in Bonny, a prominent stakeholder and Chairman of Dock Workers branch  of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Bonny chapter, Ephraim Boggy Say People has blamed the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) for alleged  exclusion to impoverish the indigenes of Bonny and other areas in River State, through unemployment of their citizens.
Mr. Ephraim Boggy Say People was speaking in an exclusive interview chat with our correspondent recently at the Bonny Jetty during the NIMASA safety awareness campaign, during which NIMASA Eastern Zone gave out 121 life Jackets to the union leaders at the Jetty.
The Bonny Chapter Chairman of the Dock Workers who was visibly angry condemned the management style of NLNG in Bonny for high handedness, and for allegedly perpetrating economic war against the people.
“NLNG don’t want to help us. Hausas have taken over our jobs. How can we be thirsty in the face of abundance?” he said, even as he stated that it was regrettable that NLNG has refused to employ the Bonny indigenes and others on the flimsy excuse that they are not trained.
“This is a ploy to continue to exploit us and marginalize our people. We will no longer condone these cheatings because it is too much. We are trained welders and artisans, but our people are roasting in poverty, every day, no work. But other tribes are coming and taking employment everyday”, he wondered.
He condemned the alleged deception NLNG by always claiming that they are taking care of the environment. He said that the human elements in Bonny and other host communities as part of the environment, and stated that they also have a duty to take care of the people in their area of operation.
While commending NIMASA coordinator Mr. Anthony Ogadi for the decision to go round and identify with the grass roots in maritime operations, he said that the gift of 121 life jackets is the first of its kind to boat operators  to help to free them from deaths, occasioned by boat mishaps and accidents. He commended NIMASA DG, over the recent move to force NLNG to pay the federal government all taxes accruable.
