Eyis Resources Training Receives Stakeholder Commendation

The continuous training programme for licensed customs agents organized by Eyis Resources Limited has received commendations from participants at the programme which held recently in Lagos.
One of the participants, President of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) Dr. Frank Ukor in a chat with Shipping Position Daily last week commended the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Lucky Amiwero for putting the programme together to benefit licensed agents.

One of the participants, President of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) Dr. Frank Ukor in a chat with Shipping Position Daily last week commended the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Lucky Amiwero for putting the programme together to benefit licensed agents.
Ukor said that the training focused mainly on classification of goods and the HS Code which has to do with the day to day challenges that are being experienced by freight forwarders in the course of their duty.
He said that, “what we did most was on classification, how to classify goods and something about HS Code”
“If you know how to classify your goods and know the harmonized system it will fall under, it will be easy for you to do your job, when the customs wants to cheat you, you can be able to resist through your knowledge, custom will always want to intimidate you or confuse you, where you suppose to pay 10 percent they will tell you it’s 20 percent, that is why it is good for you to know, knowledge becomes power and you can use this to defend your job” he explained.
According to him, even though the company is not one of the approved organizers for the purpose of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), it has given agents the in-depth knowledge about the job more than the training that is given by the CRFFN itself.
“If you want to learn, there are certain things you learn from Lucky (Amiwero) in this training that you cannot learn in the CRFFN courses, they won’t tell you the nitty-gritty, but this person will tell you as a practitioner that has been there and knows the problems that freight forwarders are going through”
“The things I gained from the course now I have known them, most of our people that were there have also learnt something and known the system that custom uses to value goods, no knowledge is a waste”
He said that four members of his association were also in attendance at the training programme.
Dr. Ukor however condemned the training of trainers (TOT) usually organized by the CRFFN, saying that it is too expensive. He lamented that the cost of the training should be fixed to make it affordable.
“Those who can afford should go, they think freight forwarders are rich, there are only very few rich ones, but the majority of the people they want to train do not have the money” he said.
