As part of the process to decongest the Tin can Island Port, Clarion; a bonded terminal now plays a major role in assisting the Five Star Logistic terminal in vehicular importation.  The terminal, it was gathered is located in Alakija area in Awuwo Odofin Local Government in Lagos.
According to the Assistant Manager on Statistic and Planning Mr, Chuks Okereafor, the inland Bonded Terminals is there to assist the Five Star Logistic Terminal as the number of vehicles imported to its terminal alone is high and the partnership is  a way to accommodate a large number of vehicular activities, Clarion Terminal plays a significant role in decongesting the port.
The terminal also deals in Tokunboh vehicles and it is only those kinds of vehicles that we send to the inland bonded terminal in Alakija”, he explained
He disclosed to Auto Port Weekly that with the support of the company, 30 percent of vehicles imported in the Five Star terminal are transferred to the Alakija- based terminal in order to create space for  the next sets of vessels that will arrive with vehicles.
According to Okereafor, the terminal is about 50,000square meters and can accommodate 5,000 vehicles at a stretch. He added that “Clarion terminal like any other terminal is there to support and to help ease traffic in the Five Star Logistic terminal, with this process, some clearing agents find it easy to locate and identify their vehicles on time and sometimes order their vehicles to that terminal so that clearing process can be easier. He revealed that some freight forwarders demand for their vehicles to be transferred to that axis even if such agent as a large number of vehicles to clear.
One of the clearing agents, Mr. Ezekiel Adeola said the terminal is not new, but the initiative of transferring vehicles from the port to the bonded terminal started in December 2010.According to him, “ the process of identifying vehicles by the clearing  agent is easy, all that is needed is to know the ship that handles the importation and after that the freight forwarder can check from the manifest of Five star logistic office’’ .The Freight forwarder also disclosed to Auto Port Weekly that the terminal handles  buses ,jeeps and saloon cars and vehicles like trucks and that clearing of  trailers is forbidden in the terminal.
