Barely four weeks to the April polls, dealers of fairly used vehicles in virtually all the auto markets in Lagos have started complaining about dwindling sales, which they attributed to the forthcoming elections.
A large number of the auto dealers expressed worry about the negative effects of the series of elections
One of such is Mr Odekanyin  Ifedayo who operates at  the Tincan Island Motor Dealers Park, who  said with the election around the corner, some of his regular customers  have already called to cancel all previous arrangements , saying that  they will come to buy vehicles after the general elections. “Since last month ,four of my potential buyers have called to inform me that they  will come to buy after the election’, he said even as he added  that some customers are afraid  at the moment  as a result of what the outcome of the elections will be. According to him, ‘’some of the buyers will tell you that the country is unpredictable”.
At the Freedom Park along Apapa Oshodi Expressway, many dealers disclosed that as a result of the coming elections, sales of used vehicles have dropped drastically. One of such dealers is Mr, Ekene O. who also confirmed that as a result of the general elections next month, business is slow and the people who are in politics are even purchasing of brand new vehicles for their campaigns.
‘’Selling has come to a halt, some of business partners outside this park will also tell you that business is on a stand still due to the coming election, right now it is even the new vehicles that are hot cakes as the politicians are using it for their various campaigns in the country’’.
Meanwhile at the United Berger Park, an agent who calls himself Obinna Ekeh said everything boils down to the elections. He said he believed that after the election the sales of Tokunboh vehicles will boom as it has been like ever since.
‘’After the election, things will take shape as most of our customers promised  to return after the elections, with the believe that ,as soon as the results  of the elections are  announced dealers and customers from other part of the country will come, it is always like this during politics’’ he added.
