A training institution; Fortune Business School (FBS) in collaboration with freight forwarding regulatory body; Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has commenced a special training programme for freight forwarders.
The programme which is tagged ‘weekend special training in freight forwarding’ is expected will lead to the award of a certificate in freight forwarding and a professional diploma in freight forwarding.

A management staff of the institute, Mrs Uchenna Onyie told Shipping Position Daily that the training is expected to last for about five Saturdays after which exams will be conducted. According to her,  a non-refundable N10, 000 has been pegged for sale of forms while N120, 000 is for the tuition.
Mrs. Uchenna also clarified that the institution is not one of the accredited training institutions by the CRFFN for the training of freight forwarders, and that it only trains the students while the Institute of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (IFFN) does the certification.
“The programme is just to train the students but we are not issuing them certificates; it is the Institute of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (IFFN) that will issue them the certificates” she confirmed.
According to the institution, to be able to qualify for the training, applicants must be matured enough and posses first school leaving certificates, among others.
Meanwhile, a freight forwarder, Chief Godswill Ndubisi has criticized the monies demanded for freight forwarders training in Nigeria, saying that the trainings are not usually carried out with human face.
According to him, the levies demanded for the training programmes are usually more than what an average freight forwarder can afford.
He challenged the CRFFN to come alive in implementing part of the Act that established it which according to him includes capacity building.
“CRFFN should come up with an affordable training programme for freight forwarders, the one that was initially organized by the council was not done with the average freight forwarder in mind, and you can now see how many of these training institutions have started increasing the fees of their training too” Chief Ndubisi lamented.
