The Zone ‘A’ Federal Operations Unitof the Nigeria Customs Service has secured conviction of a die hard smuggler; Mr Sunday Igwe for two months even as the command’s controller Alhaji Tahir Musa disclosed that his men have seized 109 googs with a duty paid value of N225.lmillion in the last three weeks.
Musa added during a chat with newsmen last week that 13 suspects were also arrested in connection with the seized items, explaining that the suspects have also been handed over to the police.
According to the controller, a large chunk of the seized goods were intercepted in a remote village in the creeks of Badagry and in the Atan area of Idi-Iroko in Ogun state. Giving an insight in to the seizures, he disclosed that the items include 76 vehicles with a duty paid value of N43million 33 seizures of general goods comprising textiles materials, 7,000 cartons of poultry products and a truck load of rice all there have a duty paid value of N181million.
He also stated that his men swung into action when they got information of items suspected to be prohibition, were traced from the water ways in Port Novo in the Republic of Benin to a village in Badagry.
