The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ in  Ikeja, Lagos said that it has seized various items duty paid value of about N208Million between April and May this year.
According to the command’s spokesman, Uche Ejezieme, the 364 units of assorted items were seized at different points within the command’s jurisdiction which spans the whole of South-West.
He quoted the command’s area controller; Mr Dan Ugo (a Customs Comptroller) has making the disclosure while reviewing its activities in his office in Ikeja.
The Comptroller noted that the provision of an enabling environment by the Comptroller-General of Customs Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko  and his management team was the needed impetus for the excellent results which the unit has recorded in recent times.
He pointed out that the unit has always taken cognizance of the CGC’s six point agenda as well as the mission and vision of the service in its approach to official functions.
According to him, Comptroller Ugo reiterated that the unit will not rest on its oars in ridding the south-west of the nefarious and unpatriotic activities of smugglers.
He also confirmed the withdrawal of the FOU ‘A’ operatives from the hinterlands in strict compliance with the directives of the Customs Comptroller General.
“The unit relies more on intelligence gathering and profiling of trade practices of importers to checkmate trade malpractices. The controller pointed out that the efforts of the unit in this regard have triggered monumental increase in revenue for customs commands in the zone”, he added.
