Shipping Position Daily gathered that the vehicular off- dock branch of PTML is unhealthy to stakeholders as they lamented the hazardous condition of the outer premises that have no public conveniences.
Some of the freight forwarders who spoke with Shipping Position Daily called on the terminal operator to provide restroom for its customers.
A freight forwarder; Mr. Taofeeq Balogun said that it is the duty of terminal operator to provide infrastructure and conveniences for its customers since it is also under the agreement of concessioning of the ports.
Balogun said that the terminal operator should consider the life of human beings who happen to be their customers as the condition of the premises has become unbearable, it can lead to gradual death.
He lamented the unhealthy condition of the premises where freight forwarders eat and drink without putting their health into consideration, adding that it is the statutory duty of PTML to provide canteen or restaurant for its clients.
Similarly, an auto dealer (names withheld) stressed the need for urgent step to be taken about the unhealthy environment and lamented that it is discouraging prospective buyers.
The fairly- used vehicle dealer said that since the inception of the off- dock terminal at Mile 2, the oozing smell from the premises has also been a major topic of discussion among the terminal’s customers and visitors.
‘’The offensive smell of the environment has made things worse for us here at the ‘freedom park’ and as a matter of fact, urgent steps need to be taken by the concerned authority because business is all about strategy and planning”, he noted.
According to him, there is need for the management of the terminal to provide amenities for its customers noting that rest room and restaurant are two major facilities that are in need by clearing agents at Mile 2
However, food vendors and hawkers also lend their voices to the poor sanitary condition at PTML.
According to them, it has discouraged customers from eating and drinking within the premises and has also scared some traders from the place.
