The Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers (NIFFCB) says that work has commenced on the setting up of an electronic data base that will include all registered freight forwarders in Nigeria so as to draw the profession closer to the federal government.
National President of the institute; Dr. Zebulon Ikokhide disclosed this yesterday at a courtesy visit to solicit support of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) towards training of the association’s members.

National President of the institute; Dr. Zebulon Ikokhide disclosed this yesterday at a courtesy visit to solicit support of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) towards training of the association’s members.
Ikokhide reiterated that the data base is of essence for the practitioners because according to him, the federal government is eager to know the calibre of freight forwarders and customs agents that are trained through the accredited institute.
He told his hosts that government will visit the institute to get information about those who undergo train with the institute urging members of the NCMDLCA to key into the training programmes set aside for practitioners.
"We are set to establish a robust database of all registered and practicing freight forwarders for reference and information purposes"
"To ensure that the freight forwarder is trained to the peak of professional excellence and to accord professionals and graduates an educational status comparable to other professionals in the country through deliberate design and implementation of the curriculum in an effort to get accreditation of our courses, from the Ministry of Education in Abuja."
According to him, the NIFFCB visitation to the NCMDLCA serve as the first port of call adding that other freight forwarding associations under the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) will be enlightened on the new and broader vision of the institute.
He pointed out that, “ it is worthy of note that freight forwarding is an important aspect of the national economy and it is the hub of all national economic development effort and aspirations, particularly as it affects air and sea modes of transportation".
The institute’s national president further added that the support of the NCMDLCA in line with the federal government new law to regulate freight forwarding practice through CRFFN in Nigeria, shall collectively contribute immensely to the development of the profession.
Speaking further as part of the visit, he stressed that "our desire as an institute is to see that, the practice of freight forwarding is done professionally, hence the need to call on your management to assist the institute in this regard".
He urged members and executives of the association to support the institute as a registered body under CRFFN.
Earlier in his remark, National President of NCMDLCA; Chief Festus Ejiofor charged the institute to work ahead of the moribund council in the area of the training of agents.
Ejiofor called on the president of the institute to reduce the cost of training of practitioners saying that a reduction in the cost of training will bring about large turn-out of professionals.
He added that members of his association are eager to be part of the training, but noted that, the cost poses a serious impediment for them to get the required knowledge.
Ejiofor assured the institute that the association will support its quest to train practitioners in.
