Managing Director, Global Scansystems Ltd., Mr Fred Udechukwu, has said that the company will collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to achieve 24-hour cargo clearance.
Udechukwu made the promise in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Lagos.
He said that the customs service should see the company, the only indigenous destination inspection agency in the country, as partner in progress.
“The customs should not see us as enemies; we are brothers as a Nigerian company.

“The customs should not see us as enemies; we are brothers as a Nigerian company.
“They should be free with us and ask relevant questions. We should work together as partners and should not antagonise each other.
“I cannot go and take over the customs job. We have been very transparent in our working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and which a foreigner cannot,’’ he said.
Udechukwu said that the company was not in a hurry to train customs officers on destination inspection.
He said that foreign companies would want to rush the training so that after the training, customs officers would have problems and the companies would be recalled.
Udechukwu said that the Global Scansystems had trained more than 1, 540 customs officers against the 350 expected by the destination inspection contract.
He said that more than 100 customs officers had been attached to various locations of the company and that the officers had just passed through the basic training.
The company boss advised that those trained should be attached to the company for about three to six months to before they would take over the job.
“The officers should work with us for few months after the training.
“We will train them abroad for about three months and when they come back, they will be supervised for three months before they can be qualified to take over,“ Udechukwu said.
He urged the NCS to nominate qualified officers for training in relevant areas of destination inspection, even as he said that there were many challenges in the training of customs officers.
