The management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) led by its director general, Mr Ziakede Akpobolokemi are billed to appear before the Senate committee on marine transport today (Wednesday) over allegations that they engaged in illegal appointments, retirements and promotion of personnel and other sundry personnel-related issues.
Apart from facing the Senate, they are also expected to respond to invitations from the Federal Character Commission this week.

Shipping Position Daily had reported exclusively on Monday that at least three directors have been forced to resign and have being allegedly given outrageous pay-off packages, while another batch of about eight directors and deputy directors have been penciled down for premature retirement.
Each of the retired directors was said to have got between N175Million and N200Million as pay-off.
Our sources confirmed that the Senate committee on marine transport which is headed by Senator Zynab Kure received complaints from some stakeholders about the controversial actions of the executive management of NIMASA.
The DG is expected to appear before the Senators with document relating to postings, promotions, appointments and retirements since December 2011 when he was appointed.
