Owing on the expiration of his tenure as the Executive Director, Marine Services at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) A group known as the Abia Youths have called for the removal of Mr. Ishaku Shekarau as executive director at the apex maritime regulatory body.
The group which comprises of Igbos both at home and abroad hinged their complaints on the fact that the South-East has always been marginalized when it comes to the appointment of directors at NIMASA.

In a strongly- worded statement issued in Umuahia, Abia state capital late last year and during the yuletide and end-of-the-year celebrations, the leader of the Abia Youths, Comrade Emeke Emetole and his Secretary Mr. Chigozie Ndulaga advised President Goodluck Jonathan that in view of further appointments into the agency, he should appoint qualified persons of Igbo extraction in line with the principle of federal character representation.
Comrade Emetole also observed that he has come to notice that the NIMASA  Executive Director, Mr. Ishaku Shekarau is still in office irrespective of the expiration of his tenure.
The Igbo youth leader also reminded President Goodluck Jonathan that since Executive Directors at NPA had been removed because of tenure expiration, there is no rational for keeping Mr, Shekarau in NIMASA even after his tenure has elapsed.
Comrade Emetole told journalists that it is only proper to relieve Shekarau who hails from Kaduna State and who represents the North West of his appointment , so as to pave way for the appointment of a qualified Igbo man from the South East to balance the federal character in the appointment of NIMASA Executive Directors.
At the NIMASA executive management cadre, no Igbo man from South East is appointed in accordance with Nigeria’s federal character.
Investigations have also confirmed that NIMASA’s Executive Director Cabotage, Mr. Ibrahim Zailani hails from Bauchi State (North-East), while Executive Director Finance/Administration, Mr. Adeniran Aderogba hails from South-West. Their tenure is expected to elapse by 2013.
