He Is Not Our Member— MWUN Denies Arrested Individual In Cocaine Seizure At Tincan Port

Following recent reports of the arrest of a dock worker by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the TinCan Port, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has issued a firm denial regarding the affiliation of one of the apprehended individual.

Contrary to initial media reports, MWUN in a press statement issued by the head of media MWUN; Kennedy Ikemefuna the union clarified that the arrested dockworker, Falowo Samuel Kayode, is not associated with it. Despite the allegations linking Kayode to the illicit drug seizure, MWUN emphasized that Kayode is, in fact, a staff member of Five Star Logistics Terminal and not a member of the Dockworkers Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.

The  union expressed its disappointment with the misleading reports and sought to set the record straight. It reiterated unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking within the ports and surrounding areas, emphasizing the detrimental impact such activities have on Nigeria’s reputation in the international maritime community.

The MWUN highlighted its ongoing efforts to educate and inform its members about the dangers of narcotics involvement, warning against any association with importers, barons, or clearing agents implicated in drug-related activities. Furthermore, the union made it clear that any member found engaging in such illicit practices would face severe consequences, including expulsion from the union.

As investigations into the drug seizure continue, the union urged the public and the media to refrain from associating Kayode’s arrest with the union, while reiterating its commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s maritime sector and pledged to work closely with law enforcement agencies to eliminate illicit activities within ports.

While the NDLEA and other relevant authorities continue their investigations, the MWUN says it remains steadfast in its mission to promote a drug-free port environment and ensure the highest standards of conduct among its members.
