Comrade Billy Oroh was a nice man, and a goal setter. He did a lot of things for the staff of NPA in order to achieve what has made NPA staff of today and whatever makes you a man or a woman is the package behind your position, as at then NPA was to be privatized, but he was able to stand his ground on it. Moreover, I learnt the heart beat of politics from him since he is a straight forward man, he was not used to playing pranks. But one thing I believe is that everyone has to go one day, but he was too young to have left that way.

When he was here for the period of eight years, I worked with him as a treasurer, it was a time that this privatisation came in, I think we fought it to a standstill, before he came in also, the welfare package was tied to the open strings of the ministry, it was also during his time that our welfare package as a union was improved, more so, there were some good packages he was able to achieve during his time in the union. However, his death was a shock to us because we didn’t expect it; we had expected longer years for him.
Comrade J.O. Orogun (Gen.Sec.,MWUN )
I knew Comrade Oroh right from when he was a district chairman. He was a good man, he worked for the people and most especially he never forgot his friends, he worked effortlessly for the people, the employees of the union and NPA as a whole. His death was a big loss to the generality of those who knew him, his friends and NPA as a whole. The advice he used to offer to people is one of the many things we will greatly miss.

He was a very good man. At the exit of Comrade Graham Billy Oroh from the union, he was given an alleviated rate of promotion to level 9, a feat which has not been achieved by anyone else. This was because of his achievement towards the growth and sustenance of the Nigerian Ports Authority. In or out of the union, he was still a unionist; the demise of this astute veteran unionist will be greatly missed.
Matthew Oshiomah (MWUN)
He was a man of peace, he liked justice and he was a leader with passion. I actually had the opportunity of working under him between 1985 and 1993; for the period of eight to nine years, he was more like a child of necessity, and what I meant by a child of necessity is that he took the leadership after a prolonged crisis in the union, we had a union crisis then. He was a man that created peace in anything he did. I remember quite well in 1991 when Babaginda wanted to privatize NPA, he stood his ground and at the end of it, as we prayed the privatisation was turned to commercialization, and then the welfare package of the workers became okay, then we were under the ministry of transport, our salaries were that of the ministry, it was under him that the salary was removed from the unified structure, and NPA now had their own salary structure under the commercialization programme. However, he was a leader that loved his people and the whole workers saw him then as a God-sent. I received his death with a great shock though I know he has had this ailment for a very long time, but everyone of us had hoped that he would overcome it and get back to life, he is a great loss to the NPA and to the maritime industry.
Mr Kolawole Ogunseyi (Former Driver of the Deceased)
Oroh was elected on February 1998, he became NPA workers’ Union leader during that time, from then I worked with him as a driver. He did well for the workers, especially in areas like: salary packages, bonus for furniture, Christmas bonus as well. He really tried a lot for the NPA workers. He had a touch in the lives of many NPA workers especially with our salaries then which was nothing to write home about, when he came in, salary package became enhanced. His death was a very shocking one, when you come to NPA, you will hear people talk about him a lot, it is a big shock to all of us, but we give glory to God for a life well spent.
Mr. Felix Akingboye (Dep. Sec. Research/ Training, MWUN)
Late Comrade Billy Oroh was a kind and truthful man, he was friendly with anybody at anytime, he was a committed trained unionist and a democrat. He wouldn’t be happy to see anyone’s right trampled upon; he was a loving, very amiable comrade and an easy going man. His death was a very painful one. He was a good leader whom we use to get inspiration from.
