IOTA Partners RTEAN For Manpower Development

As part of measures to educate and enlighten stakeholders in the transport sub sector of the economy, the Institute of Transport Administration [IOTA] Nigeria is set to train members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria [RTEAN].
The initiative was unfolded on Wednesday, when members of the association paid a courtesy visit to the sole Administrator of the institute in his office at Ebute Metta, Lagos.

As part of measures to educate and enlighten stakeholders in the transport sub sector of the economy, the Institute of Transport Administration [IOTA] Nigeria is set to train members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria [RTEAN].
The initiative was unfolded on Wednesday, when members of the association paid a courtesy visit to the sole Administrator of the institute in his office at Ebute Metta, Lagos.
National Secretary General, of RTEAN, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed noted that there was need to partner with an institute with international recognition that can impart positively on members in the bid to provide efficient transport service delivery in Nigeria.
He said that there is need to synergize with the IOTA to enhance the capacity of his members towards providing service to Nigeri,a adding that it cannot be done when members do not have the rudiments of what it takes in order move the sector to the next level.
According to him, the national president Chief Abubakar Sadiq gave an approval to the national council and state delegates to visit the institute in a bid to have an interface, pointing out that the association will support the institute to realize its objectives.
He said  RTEAN is empowered “as a management organization in the transport industry to promote and protect members’ interest ,socio – economically towards providing efficient transportation service delivery in Nigeria and also to take control of all motor park administration ,operation ,security and management by ensuring safety of commuters passengers and goods’’
‘‘The event becomes necessary as partners in progress we intend to build confidence, synergy, collaborations and partnership with the Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria[IOTA],however, this is the first advocacy visit programme by the current National Executives Council of  RTEAN`    `under its enviable leadership, National President of the association’’.
Mohammed added that “our members presence is in response to the sole administrator’s clarion call to duty which RTEAN has come to team up with the institute professionally in order to modernize the transportation  industry in Nigeria through ICT, skill acquisition, achieving the transformation agenda of Mr. President, Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan service delivery in Nigeria’’
He stated that RTEAN is an affiliate of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association [NECA] and not Nigeria Labour Congress as most people erroneously think and believe, adding that RTEAN is an umbrella association of all owners of commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, trailers, tippers, commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators with national offices in the 36 states of the federation, including the FCT, Abuja.
He however reiterated that RTEAN and IOTA partnership is a good combination that will produce the best results for the transport industry, adding that RTEAN has partnered with NAFDAC and Consumer Protection Council respectively on sensitization and enlightenment programmes.
In his welcome address, the Sole Administrator of IOTA, Nigeria Prince Don Aki assured that the collaboration with RTEAN will provide a platform for effective transport sector.
According to him, the national secretary of RTEAN called him in respect of a previous publication about the institute which led to the collaboration of both organizations.
Aki reiterated that the partnership with RTEAN is a lifetime relationship with the motive of empowering members of the association academically, adding that drivers of the association are redefined and equipped with the technical know – how that is required in the transport industry.
‘’The partnership with RTEAN is a lifetime relationship and apart from the academic training we will go to the extent of making sure that most of the truck drivers and bus drivers are redefined in moral ethics which will come in form repackaging them to the society.’’
‘’With this collaboration on ground the Agbero is dead and henceforth they are known as transport consultants, they in turn will pass the message across to others’’ .
Meanwhile a six man committee has been set up by both bodies to oversee the affairs of the synergy. Mr. Dominic Obiajulu who is the Secretary General of the Board of Trustees of IOTA will chair the committee, while Captain S.A. Ketiku [rtd]; Lagos State Chairman of RTEAN is the secretary.
Other members of the committee are, the sole Administrator of IOTA Prince Don Aki, the National Secretary-General of RTEAN, Abdullahi Mohammed, Oyo State Chairman of RTEAN, Mr. Pam Adelabi and Deputy National President Planning and Logistics RTEAN, Alhaji Olotu Davies Isiaka.
