The Independent Petroleum Marketers' Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the Federal Government to impose stiffer sanction on illegal jetty operators.
The Financial Secretary of IPMAN, Western Zone Alhaji Adebisi Bada, said in Lagos that operators of illegal jetties were economic saboteurs.
According to him, “the Federal Government should promulgate stiffer sanctions on illegal jetties' operators to serve as deterrent to other economic saboteurs.”

“The regulators saddled with this responsibility of checking the excesses of illegal jetties, lack the formidable ability.’'
Bada said that if the activities of the operators were not checked, it might be worse than the activities of pipeline vandals.
He urged the government to constitute a special court to prosecute and punish offenders.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) had uncovered four illegal jetties in Lagos in the last five months.
The DPR said the illegal jetties where responsible for adulterated diesel in circulation.
Only on Tuesday, the DPR disclosed that it had discovered yet another illegal jetty in Kirikiri area of Apapa, Lagos where petroleum products are allegedly discharged illegally. The shocking discovery was made at the Union Dicon Salt jetty.
Four barges filled with AGO, also known as diesel, were discovered during the visit of the DPR’s monitoring team to the jetty.
The four barges are MV Priye, MV Kome, MV Soa, Fuadl, all containing diesel.
