The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has said it will establish an inland container depot in Kano state to address challenges of cargo clearance and delivery faced by shippers in the Northwest zone. The Director, Inland Transport Service of the council, Mrs. S. A. Adeagbo at a one-day sensitization workshop for shippers disclosed in Kano, weekend.
Represented by a director in the council, Alhaji Murtala Akintola, she said the council is aware of the challenges being faced by shippers and other stakeholders in the region, hence, resolved to establish the depot to alleviate their sufferings.
The director explained that the federal government has over the past decade embarked on port reforms which resulted to operational efficiency, infrastructural development, increased throughput, safety and security of cargo at ports.
Earlier, the zonal coordinator of the council in charge of Northwest zone, Hajiya Karimatu Othman, said the seminar was aimed at enlightening exporters of agricultural products on the importance of packaging and quality control in international commodity transaction.
The state commissioner of commerce, Alhaji Rabi’u Bako represented by a Director in the ministry, Alhaji Auwal S. Umar, expressed the need for Nigeria to diversify its economy to agricultural sector.
