Minister of Transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman has opened up on the much-expected port development plan, saying that the Federal Government I set to implement a 25-year port master plan, which according to him, aims at maximizing opportunities and potentials of the nation’s seaports.
As part of the package, he said at a media parley in Abuja recently that a plan was also being finalised for the rehabilitation of Koko port, Tin-Can Island port quay wall and Julius Berger terminal.

As part of the package, he said at a media parley in Abuja recently that a plan was also being finalised for the rehabilitation of Koko port, Tin-Can Island port quay wall and Julius Berger terminal.
According to him, rehabilitation of the Tin-Can Island port quay wall and apron as well as rehabilitation of Port Harcourt quay are already in progress, even as he added that the procurement process for the construction of Bonny Jetty, Calabar Finger Jetty, Port Harcourt Finger Jetty and Marina Jetty, CMS, had also been flagged –off.
Suleiman said other key initiatives of the ministry were port expansion, channel and towage management, safety of navigation, protection of marine environment, provision of additional car parks and container stacking at Kirikiri and Tin-Can Island ports.
The minister explained that the Nigerian waters, with a total coastline of about 800 kilometers, had numerous opportunities for investment in Greenfield port development and ship building.
He said these were in areas like Tarkwa Bay , Ogogoro Island , Snake Island , Lagos , Lekki Free Trade Zone and Lagos Free Trade Zone.
