About three weeks after dissolving the governing council, the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar yesterday ordered the reconstitution of an interim governing council for the embattled Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

About three weeks after dissolving the governing council, the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar yesterday ordered the reconstitution of an interim governing council for the embattled Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
In a terse statement in which he confirmed the development, the Registrar of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe disclosed that, the minister “has directed that a two month’s Interim Governing Council be immediately constituted to conduct election that would usher in the new members of the Governing Council at the shortest possible time.”
When contacted on the telephone yesterday to shed more light, Jukwe declined further comments, saying that it is the minister that would constitute the interim governing council and that until that is done, everyone will only need to wait.
He however assured that the interim council members would soon be unfolded by the ministry, even as he added that the council “expresses appreciation to the former Governing Council members for their services”, stating that they would soon be hosted to a valedictory session.
The CRFFN has been enmeshed in controversies since the minister granted approval to it to start collection of transaction fees on all imported cargoes.
The bone of contention between the CRFFN and the some of its registered associations, namely: ANLCA and NAGAFF was the formula to adopt in sharing proceeds from the collection which is projected to be in excess of N1Billion annually.
Prior to dissolving the governing council, the minister had made an unsuccessful effort to broker peace between the CRFFN and its registered association.
While that was going on, the tenure of the elected members of the council lapsed, a development which elicited another controversy among the stakeholders, some of whom called for elections into the governing council.
