After what seem like a dead end, registered freight forwarders who are members of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFF), yesterday met to save the moribund council from extinction.
The CRFFN has been in limbo for more than one year, following what seem like irreconcilable differences between leaders of the freight forwarding associations and the Council over how proposed proceeds into the Council’s coffers are to be shared.
After what seem like a dead end, registered freight forwarders who are members of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFF), yesterday met to save the moribund council from extinction.
The CRFFN has been in limbo for more than one year, following what seem like irreconcilable differences between leaders of the freight forwarding associations and the Council over how proposed proceeds into the Council’s coffers are to be shared.
But, yesterday at the instance of the immediate past chairman of its governing council; Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju, some of the dramatis personae converged in Lagos to bury the hatchet and seek the way forward for the cash-strapped CRFFN.
The meeting was attended by freight forwarders who have been members of the CRFFN governing council.
One of the main issues that came up at the meeting was the current state of paucity of fund which has been the lot of the Council and which has rendered it comatose.
Speaking on behalf of the attendees, a former national president of ANLCA, Chief Henry Njoku confirmed told Shipping Position Daily that the meeting was for the freight forwarding associations to work together and find common goal to revive the council.
Elochukwu said one of resolutions reached at the meeting was that there was need to focus on the aims and objectives of the CRFFN Act and to play down on individual differences for the sake of the maritime sector.
According to him, “we are not expecting the government to do all the funding, it is about our profession".
He confirmed that, " we have even resolved to contribute individually and collectively towards ensuring that there is adequate funding for the council to be resuscitated, because it is our profession and if we are able to bring it to become functional again, it will mean that all that we are actually fighting for individual to have a professional voice will come to a reality ".
He also noted that proper consultation with the ministry of transport, will enable the council to achieve its objectives, saying that the purpose of the meeting was for the CRFFN to be up and doing again.
Apart from the immediate past chairman and convener, the meeting was attended by the pioneer chairman; Mr Tony Nwabunike, the national president of four of the five registered freight forwarding associations. They are: Prince Olayiwola Shittu, Chief Eugene Nweke, Prince Festus Ejofor amd Mr CAT Agubamah.
Also in attendance were: the immediate past vice chairman of CRFFN governing council; Dr Oyemelukwe, Chief Ernest Elochokwu, Chief Peter Obih, Alhaji Moshhod Tijani, among others.
Yesterday’s meetimg was the first since the crisis broke out between the CRFFN and the freight forwarding associations.
