The Nigeria Custom Service, Lilypond Area Command, Ijora, Lagos on Tuesday announced that its revenue for the first quarter of 2012 appreciated by 25 per cent.
The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the command, Mr Charles Agomuo said that it realised N5.9 billion as revenue between January and March 2012.
Agomuo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the comparative revenue analysis between the first quarter of 2012 and 2011 also showed a significant growth trend in earnings.
He said that revenue growth in period was in agreement with the six point agenda of the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde-Dikko.
The command spokesman said that its increased revenue profile followed the command’s Comptroller, Mr Ralph Bellu creation of a level playing ground for terminals operators and Customs Licensed Agents.
He said that the command in May seized a 40 feet container carrying two used vehicles, air conditioner parts and Peugeot accessories with a duty value of N8 million.
Lilypond Area  Command is a dry port that sources its goods from Apapa Area 1 Command.
According to him, the decongestion of human and vehicular traffic under the bridge located directly opposite the port, has made the dry port accessible for cargo operations.
“The Federal Government and Lagos State Government in consolidated effort have brought succor to business activities within Ijora and its environs by decongesting the area.
Agomuo said that the bridge had before the government intervention a haven for miscreants, trucks drivers and people with questionable characters.
He said also the accessibility to the containers terminal would in the long term leverage the revenue base of the port.
