Maersk Line will launch service between southeast India and Sri Lanka and northern Europe in early March to tap into "one of the world's fastest growing sourcing areas for our customers." Maersk said the new ICON service, deploying seven ships of 3,400 20-foot equivalent units, is "a milestone” in the development of its coverage of the Indian subcontinent. "Being in close dialogue with our customers helps us spot trends in sourcing and anticipate future needs. That is how we came up with the ICON service," said Vincent Clerc, vice president Europe services. The port rotation is: Chennai, Colombo, Salalah, Zeebrugge, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Salalah, Colombo. The service will also operate a feeder link via Colombo to and from Bangladesh. The first vessel from Europe will sail from Zeebrugge on March 7 and the first westbound sailing will be from Chennai on March 14. *JOC.
