The Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has explained that the inability of the independent freight forwarders who are aspiring to be elected into the governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to secure the support of the registered associations is the major reason the candidates were disqualified from contesting in the election which is rescheduled for Saturday.

Dr. Aniebonam disclosed this at NAGAFF headquarters in Lagos yesterday, when he hosted representative of some of the CRFFN-registered freight forwarding associations.

He however encouraged independent contestants to choose any of the five registeredassociationsto identify with.

"Let me give you an example, you cannot contest an election in this country if you do not belong to a political party. If you want to contest for election in this Federal Republic of Nigeria you must be a member of a political party”.

"When you come down to our own sector, you have CRFFN as a regulator and CRFFN has accredited five associations and in this five associations you have the opportunity to join one of them”.

According to him, the association is a framework for individuals to strive even as he added that anybody that fails to associate with the association need to be properly checked.

"So the association is the framework for individuals to strive and can tell you that 99.9% of practitioners in the industry belong to one association or the other. So if you are not in one of those associations you have to look at yourself if everything is okay with you"

He also called on all the five registered association to join hands together to ensure the success of the coming election.

Meanwhile, founder of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (ARFFN); DrFrank Ukor, lauded NAGAFF for the initiative of bringing all the associations together, describing the development as a milestone in the sector.

Also speaking at the meeting, Secretary General of the National Council for the Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) Mr. Festus Ukwu said that it is a good thing for all the associations to speak with one voice.
