A group, Reformed Society for Truth and Equity (RSTE), on Wednesday urged residents in Badagry area of Lagos state to shun smuggling.
The Chairman of RSTE, Dr Great Gbenupo, in an interview in Badagry also advised the residents to beware of smugglers inciting communities against government officials.
“Residents around Seme, Gbaji and Badagry axis should desist from smuggling as it affects the economy of the nation.
“They should avoid the antics of some smugglers who try to incite them against security operatives, especially the Customs and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
“Most people who go about making all sorts of allegations are smugglers who have no other means of livelihood.
“They resort to seeking the support of innocent villagers to cause trouble which often leads to loss of lives and property,’’ Gbenupo said.
According to him, RSTE is in the forefront of making sure that there is a good working relationship between people in the communities and all agencies that operate in the area.
“We will not condone any situation where the residents would be unjustly molested.
“Equally, we will not support unnecessary attack on any officer of security agencies in the course of carrying out their legitimate duties,” he said.
He advised the public to always engage in legitimate trade in order to improve the economy of the country.
