A 35-year-old, Uchenna Obidile, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly hijacking and stealing a 40-foot container carrying N35 million worth of motorcycle tyres and tubes.
The accused, popularly known as `Olowun’, appeared on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the offences were committed on July 20, 2017, on Oshodi-Apapa expressway.
He alleged that the accused and others, now at large, hijacked the 40-foot container carrying Supermaster motorcycle tyres and tubes valued at N35 million, belonging to a businessman, Chief Ralph Obi.
Adebayo said that the container was snatched after the truck left the Apapa Wharf dock, to be delivered to the owner.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, admitted the accused to a bail of N1 million with two responsible sureties each, in like sum.
He said that the sureties must also show proof of evidence of livelihood; have their addresses verified, and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Olatunji adjourned the case until Sept. 5 for trial.
