The Nigerian Port Consultative Council (PCC) has appealed to maritime industry stakeholders to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to ensure the success of the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS ll).
The Chairman of the council, Chief Kunle Folarin, made the plea in an interview on Friday in Lagos.
The NICIS ll, which was inaugurated on April 20, is an automotive operation of cargo clearance, programmed to block all government revenue leakages.
It is also meant to improve compliance and regulate government fiscal policy, which will lead to increase in government revenue generation.
Folarin said NICIS II was similar to the single window project earlier introduced by the council, except that other agencies would be integrated into the new network.
“The success of NICIS II will depend on the cooperation of all the players in the port industry.
“In particular, it must be seen as a project for all and not as Nigeria Customs Service project, otherwise the cooperation, coordination and the integrity of the project will suffer,” Folarin said.
He added that the effective operation of NICIS ll would remove human interface and by so doing increase the turnaround time of cargo.
