The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said that about 343,471 tons of various goods including agricultural produce, mineral resources and other exportable items were exported through the command from January till July 2018.
The out-going Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Musa Jibril, disclosed this during his handover to the new area controller of the command in Apapa recently.
Musa also said that the Free On Board (FOB) value within the period under review was about N57.666Billion.
"The command kept faith with the assurance made earlier in the year to exporters of her readiness to facilitate legitimate trade. The summary of the export proceed from January till July 2018 shows that 343,471.80 tons of various items including agricultural products, mineral resources and other exportable products in line with the extant laws guiding export businesses"
"This is in line with the federal government effort at diversifying the Nigerian economy through encouragement of non-oil export"
He also appealed for increased level of willful compliance to the extant laws guiding the export businesses.
He also said that the command within the period under review collected a total of N210, 260, 123, 203.7 which shows 84.6% collection of the July target.
"This is in line with keeping the promise of the command to maintain her lead in revenue collection, in the prevailing harsh economic conditions as evidenced by low cargo throughput notwithstanding"
"The significance of this unrivaled attainment will be appreciated when placed at par with the command's collection in the preceding year, 2017 which was N196,701, 774, 277.7"
