Master mariners and ship owners have expressed hope that the recently acquired simulator for the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron, will boost the employability of cadets who are presently schooling at the Academy
Recall that the Rector of MAN, Oron, Commodore Duja Effedua (rtd) had informed that the much- awaited simulators arrived the country from India.
He said the current management has been able to upgrade the academy’s equipment by acquiring three state-of-the-art simulators, namely the Full Mission Bridge Simulator, the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator and the Multi-Functional Classroom simulator which is the latest in marine training simulators and can sit up to 30 cadets in a work station
He explained that one simulator can take 30 cadets at once meaning that the two equipment can take 60 cadets or more at a time.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily, a former president, Nigeria Association of Master Mariners (NAMM), Captain Adewale Ishola said the simulator will aid learning and as well boost the employability of the cadets.
According to him, “it has been long awaited; COVID 19 delayed it, and with the arrival of the stimulator now, this will supplement their sea time requirement, so it’s a win- win for the academy and it will boost the employability of Nigeria Cadets. It’s a good one for the academy he said.
Speaking also, the incumbent President of Nigerian Association of Masters Mariners (NAMM); Capt Tajudden Alao said the arrival of simulator after two decades is a reality of how much the rector has delivered.
He stressed that with the equipment, the training of cadets and officers in the sub-region has no equal, as Nigeria will be the preferred destination for cadets.
“We are sending congratulatory letter to Rector of MAN Oron; this achievement has taken over two decades to become a reality, with this equipment, training of cadets and officers in the sub region has no equal. Nigeria is the destination, the Rector has delivered and we are proud of what he is doing over there.
Also, the immediate past president of the Nigeria Indigenous Ship Owners Association (NISA); Mr. Aminu Umar in a recent chat with Shipping Position Daily rated the cadets from MAN Oron far higher than the NSDP cadets while stating that the arrival of the stimulator would enhance the capacity development of Nigeria cadets.
